Ok, this is my first post for ‘the baby room’ One of my friends is pregnant.. she used to have a really clear face until now….the zits never stop coming… which Here’s a little to do and not to do list that I’ve adapted from one article from this month’s issue of Mother & Baby, just like to share it here…these beauty tips are definitely reliable – they come from Dr Low Chai Ling, Medical Director of Aesthetic Medical Centre, The Sloane Clinic.

Pregnancy brings changes to your skin and skincare needs… You may jolly well have a model clear face before preggo times, but hormones change and your skin change as you develop into your pregnancy.. Whilst it’s important to take care of the little growing being inside you, it’s also important to look your best….be a pretty mum

The article says that you should use sun protection to fight UV damage and prevent pregnancy induced pigmentation. Well….everyone should use a daily cream of at least SPF15 daily….i mean, normal non-pregnant women.. So it’s even more important to make this a MUST DO when you’re pregnant.. DON’T BE LAZY!

Dr Low also suggest using makeup labelled non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic to prevent acne outbreaks and pores from clogging. Well, I’ve really never investigated the ingredients of makeup, but yeah, point noted, doc.

It seems doctors are also supportive of using mild AHA based products to control oil and curb acne…i dont’ know how true that is…but if your skin is really sensitive, i would not try…or seek futher advice from your doctor.

Where makeup is concerned, Dr Low suggests using a green tinted make up base to camouflage excess rednewss, as skin gets easily flushed during pregnancy…..REally??? I didn’t know that oh well, if it gets flushed in the cheeks, you can save on the blush, isn’t that better?

So, what are the don’ts?

Doc Low warns not to use retinoids as these are derived from Vit A, and studies have shown that high doses of oral vit A can harm an unborn baby….So better be safe than sorry avoid the topical use too

also don’t use products containing salicylic acid as high oral doses can cause birth defects and complications. If you know of any salicyclic acid products, share it here…i dont’ know any… I probably have some at home, I’m just not very observant to these details.

Doctor Low also warns preggo ladies against usage of soy-based products. Soy can worsen the ‘mask of pregnancy’ – the dark patches of the cheeks, as can oil of bergamot which is found in many organic products. so whilst you’re pregnant, avoid visiting the ‘organic’ aisle of the supermarket, you’ll save MONEY it’ll do you good 2
