Chelsea closed the gap with Manchester United during yesterday’s away match against Manchester City, scoring 2-0, one in each half. The victory sees Avram Grant’s side come within 2 points difference with the Premiership leader and champion, Manchester United; only with the exception that the league leader has an extra game on hand, which the team will travel to Middlesborough on Sunday.
The first was an own goal by Dunne on the 6th minute, the second goal was scored by Kalou on the 53th minute, after the restart.
Earlier during the afternoon, Arsenal faced Liverpool at home. The visitor scored the first goal, courtesy by Peter Crouch, but the host is not going to be denied by their win, with Nicklas Bendtner cancelling their strike. The match eventually ended with another 1-1 stalemate between the two teams, consecutively within a space of 6 days.
As the season is coming to an end, it is almost appearing to be a two-horse race. The only difference now is that, the two “horses” are Manchester United and Chelsea, instead of Arsenal. Mathematically, Arsenal still has a chance to win the title, but statistically (or rather, probabilistically), the chances remain very slim.
